We are passionate about helping to relieve suffering and poverty throughout the world through our Feeding, Educating, Empowering and Developing programmes. We aim to make a difference by sharing the love of Jesus Christ through practical Christianity. We want to give hope to those in need and provide people with an opportunity to develop emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually.
In Uganda we are focusing on changing lives one by one as we share the love of Jesus with those whose needs are greatest.
Amazing Story from Christine
I remember the day Smile came to visit my mother who is very sick at home. That day a lot was going on and we were not sure if mom would stay alive but the biggest problem for us all at home that day was hunger. When the Smile volunteers came to our home they brought us food and I really noticed God at work. My mother is getting better now and we thank you smile for following us up and loving us. God bless you.
I also remember the day I was going to miss my S.4 exams because I did not have registration fees and mom was very sick and admitted in Mulago referral Hospital. That was a dark moment. This was a very hard time for me and I was planning to take my life because I could not face the humiliation of missing exams while my friends are in examination room. I came to the Smile Centre and I shared my need of examination registration and I was helped to pay this fee. I am alive today because when I came to the Smile Centre, someone listened to me and offered to help.
Your support will enable us to continue to help individuals like Christine and her family … thank you.

In Zimbabwe our projects concentrate on feeding and educating children, supporting men and women through our Empowering programme, as well as micro-financing projects with the aim of helping the disadvantaged to become self-sufficient.
The economic crisis has left many children struggling to survive and so through our feeding programme, we are able to provide children with a hot nutritious meal during term time. For many of these children, a school lunch is their only meal of the day. For children on our Sponsor a Child programme, we are also able to pay their school fees which means they have the opportunity to learn in a safe environment, giving them access to a brighter future.
However, many adults in Zimbabwe also need support. We provide women with practical and financial assistance to help them cope without their loved ones, by providing micro-financing opportunities so they can learn a new skill and start on the road to becoming self-sufficient.
Many pastors travel long distances to preach the Gospel message in remote areas as well as care for their congregations; many of whom do not receive a salary and yet are faithful in providing support to members of their churches.
There are so many in need. Yet by helping just one child or adult we can make a huge difference in their life.
Please pray for:
- AIDS orphans struggling to cope without their parents
- More opportunities for children to receive an education
- Men and women living in extreme poverty
- For volunteers to go and support the work

In Sri Lanka we are feeding, educating and empowering children and adults to help them break out of the cycle of poverty.
Giving children an opportunity to learn
Many of our children come from the sand dunes where the facilities are very basic, so when they come to our Smile Lanka preschool they are able to have a refreshing shower and breakfast before they start their activities. Throughout the morning they are taught their colours, shapes, numbers and letters, as well as having plenty of time for music, story-time, dancing and crafts. Preschool is also a time for developing good learning habits and positive self-esteem which helps them when they go to their local schools, so this is also part of the programme. The children receive a healthy nutritious meal before going home at the end of the morning too!
At our after-school care club we provide older children the opportunity to receive extra help in Maths, English, Science, History and Geography. As soon as they arrive after school, they are given a healthy nutritious meal so that they can concentrate fully on their studies.
For the children who have reached the end of their secondary school education, we provide opportunities for skills training to equip the young people for a successful career through vocational training.
Creating opportunities for women – empowering the disadvantaged
In poor communities, girls and women often bear the brunt of poverty, so when you empower a girl or a woman, she becomes a catalyst for positive change and not only do they benefit but their success benefits everyone around her. Providing girls and women with an opportunity to learn a skill means that they are not only able to support their families, but also become women of independent means.
At Smile Lanka we run 6-month tailoring courses where the women are taught a skill which enables them to sell their wares at the local market and become self-sustaining. We also run a cookery course where young girls and women are taught how to make simple meals and local sweets that they can sell in the market.
Investing in women fundamentally strengthens families and societies and so your donation supports girls’ education and our empowering programmes.
All our services are provided free of charge so we value your support.

Our work in Kosova centres on providing food for the hungry and providing palliative care to terminally-ill patients.
Feeding the hungry
‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
Even though the spotlight has moved away from Kosova, there are still children and families that go hungry. Through providing food parcels we are able to help alleviate that hunger and show God’s love in action.
Quality care in Kosova … when it matters most
In 2011 we started our palliative care programme where we provide professional end of life care for terminally-ill patients. Our care is tailored to each patient’s individual needs and we work closely with them to support their choices. Our aim is to support the care of seriously ill and dying patients in their home, bringing comfort and dignity to people and help them live life to the full, for whatever time they have left. Our palliative care programme operates from our Smile Centre in Gjakove.
At the heart of what we do is our commitment to competently and compassionately shape our services to meet the needs and desires of our patients and families. Caring for family and friends is just as important as caring for the patient, so we recognise the need to ensure that help and advice is also given to all those involved – family members, carers and friends
