Thank you for your interest in raising funds for Smile International. Whatever you do, whether it is a sponsored walk, baking cakes or running a marathon, you will be making a real difference to those in need.
Fundraise at Work
Why not ask your employer if you can have a Smile day? Choose a date in the calendar when you will have a collection and go for it! Or, if you can bake cakes, sell them at work for those much-needed coffee and tea breaks – nearly everyone loves home-made cakes! How about a sponsored walk at lunch-time? Get five of your work colleagues to join you, each donating £5 – half an hour round the block and you’ve raised £30! It gets them out of the office, promotes physical exercise and all for a good cause!
A great way to support Smile International through work is to give a regular, tax-free donation directly from your pay packet. When you choose payroll giving your donation is taken from your pay before tax is deducted. The Inland Revenue gives the charity the tax that it would otherwise have kept. In other words it lets you give even more at no extra cost to you! For example, if you would like to donate £5 to Smile International, you only pay £4. If your work-place doesn’t have a payroll scheme in place, then why not suggest they start one. It is very easy to set up and inexpensive to run.
Fundraise at Home
A simple way to raise funds at home is to invite family, friends and neighbours round for a coffee morning or a simple lunch – everyone appreciates an invite to something! If you raise just £10 it means that children in Zimbabwe can receive a hot, nutritious meal through our feeding programme.
Fundraise at Church
If your church would like to transform lives in the developing world then fundraising is one way of helping to achieve that. Organising a church fundraising event is a great way to bring people and talents together in all sorts of fun and interesting ways. They also offer great opportunities to socialise. You could ask your church to hold a fellowship lunch with people supplying the food and making a donation.
Get the picture? Ask members of your church to bring in a photograph of themselves as a baby or young child and see who can match the baby photo to the member of the church. Line up all the photos on a board (or scan the photos so the originals aren’t damaged!), then give each photo a number and each current photo a letter. People then buy a form with all the answers on and try to match the correct photos. All the correct entries are placed in a hat and the church leader (or organiser!) picks out a form and the true identities of the babies are revealed. If your church has a website, perhaps the photo competition could be done online!
How about creating your own online sponsorship page for your fundraising?
It’s a really quick, simple and secure way to collect sponsorship. Whether you’re running a marathon, doing a personal event to support our work, we are here to help you raise as much money as possible online. By setting up your own sponsorship or donations page you can collect donations online from friends, family and work colleagues all over the world.
Why set up an online fundraising page?
- It’s quick and easy – you can email the link to everyone you know, wherever they are, in just a few moments, and people can sponsor you straight away by credit or debit card.
- Automatic Gift Aid – if your sponsors are tax payers, the Gift Aid is automatically added, collecting a 25% bonus with no extra cost or effort to you or your sponsor.
- It’s safe – all online sponsorship money is automatically and securely collected.
- It’s fun – you can build a fundraising page for any event, and edit it at any time. Everyone who sponsors you can also include a personal note of encouragement next to their donation.
- By raising money through your online page you will be helping to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable families and children.
To set up your page go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/ Once you have created your page you can start using it and collecting sponsorship straight away by emailing the link to all your contacts! It’s that easy.
Help us by choosing Smile International as your charity this year – there are lots of ways you can help. Why not organise a social event and raise money at the same time? Instead of your usual weekly “take-away”, why not make it an event? Invite your friends over, make it a fancy dress party and get everyone to donate money to Smile. You could always ask us to come and speak at the Christian Union or a special event your university is holding too!
Your ideas are welcome!
If you are holding a fundraising event or would like to fundraise for Smile, please get in touch. We would love to hear what you are doing and don’t forget we can supply you with literature and DVD’s for your event.
